My thought is that you should fix your thread title.

You posted something that made it sound like it's a done thing.

But then, upon following your link, we discover it's just a rumor based on some unnamed source saying he took a physical.

So, fix your title by saying it's a rumor or by addiing a ? at the end, or something like that...

The rumor was confirmed to be true by Ken Rosenthal.

This move would mean that they are probably not going to be able to get Bay. Their lineup still heads Ellsbury, Pedoria, Youk, Victor Martinez but DH looks thin and Sacturo does not impress. Still, Lackey - Beckett - Lester - Buchholz - Wakefield/ Dice K is as stout as stout can be. That could very seriously be 5 numer one starters. If Buchholz is ready, Lester was a number one last year, Beckett has been and looked a lot better last year, Lackey is border line if not defiantly, and Dice K went 18-5 not long ago.....

On one hand it makes me think we need to add a centerpiece and on the other hand it makes me think we should keep all the pitching we can and hope three stars come out in the end.

If by "confirmed", you mean just repeating the exact same unsourced rumor, well, I agree that he did repeat it.

However, I don't see how it confirms anything to have multiple people passing on exact same unsourced rumor.

It's not like there is any evidence whatsoever of multiple sources or of credible sources. It's just "a ML source".

This is how we heard that BRob was going to Cubs several times...

Fixed that for you :)

According to the Boston Globe, he did confirm it.

The Red Sox are moving close to a deal with free agent starting pitcher John Lackey according to a report by FoxSports' Ken Rosenthal, who confirmed an earlier Twitter report by Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.
source - Boston Globe.

ETA: Jon Heyman on Twitter says it's a 5 year / $85 million deal.

1:41pm: Yahoo's Tim Brown has an Angels source who believes they're still in the running for Lackey and the pitcher has not accepted a Boston offer. Still, SI's Jon Heyman heard a five-year, approximately $85MM figure for a Boston deal.

    • I think he’s fine in the regular season but if you look around at #4 starters on contending teams like NYY, LAD, PHI, and ATL you get: LAD: one of Walker Buehler/Bobby Miller/Clayton Kershaw (if healthy) ATL: Reynaldo Lopez (3.60 xERA, 2.90 FIP) or Max Fried (3.16 xERA, 3.51 FIP) NYY: Gil, Stroman, or Schmidt PHI: Turnbull (4.19 xERA, 3.62 FIP) or Sanchez (3.73 xERA, 2.58 FIP)   The only guys I would consider Kremer over are Stroman (who is probably the Yankees 6th best starter when Cole comes back) or Turnbull (very similar career numbers but has been much better this year). Again, he’s fine as a #5 but I would not want him starting another playoff game and if Irvin reverts back to being a 4-4.40 ERA guy, I don’t think we would be thrilled with that either.
    • It certainly goes to show the Orioles have a good team when almost all of their DFA's are claimed now. But that's exactly why having three options was put into the MLB system. This gives guys like Nevin, McKenna, Baumann major league opportunities when they would be stuck in AAA with the Orioles. while it stink for the Orioles to not have those depth players, it also give guys chances to becomes those depth players still in the system.
    • It’s really hard to watch veterans struggle, but I still think the O’s are a month away from doing anything more significant than they’ve done already to adjust playing time, etc.   Hopefully some of the vets wake up before then.
    • Is it me, or does ti appear that Adley drops to his knee on almost every big swing and is off balance even when he connects with a ball? I don't remember this pronounced "drop to a knee" swing in almost every single at bat. That cant be a good thing for a hitter or even if it is not a concern, Adley gets out of the box slower because he's off balance.
    • Seems like we’re just going in circles on this. Showalter is exactly a use case for why I think JF could be moved at some point. There’s only a select 2 or 3 on Elias’ absolute no touch list (presumably - but no one knows for sure obviously).  JF would be moved if the right team asks in the right deal as I doubt he’s not on the into untouchable list. We are both ultimately saying the same thing here…I think. BTW, interesting what the Cards are doing with Showalter, moved to pen and pitching only once a week. Man he’s been dominant. 18.1 IP, 30K and only 13 H and 6 BB allowed this year. I was in the camp that was very disappointed he was moved (even before Flahery came over and clunked).
    • One thing I have to add on Young.   That analysis was based on about 17 IP.
    • Plus, McCann might not be as safe as we think.  We could pretty much rotate catcher’s in off the street for what McCann brings. I’m sure some catchers in the minors have June 1st opt out clauses too.  Hunt could just be a CYA thing if there is a guy out there with a June 1 opt out date that we’ve already identified.
